In today’s generation of Skins’ casts, Alo was the least character i liked. (Most probably because he looked like a live-action version of Butt-head and that he’s the least attractive among the cast.) He plays the stereotype who acts like a total prick in the show’s previous installments— I mean he just pops everywhere and annoys everyone like most of the time but it was great to see him have a whole episode to himself. I didn’t know he was a farm boy and that he struggles living with his cocky mother and basically has the hardest life among the group. Seeing his side of the story made me like his character now.
This episode makes infinitely better use of the ensemble than the past five episodes have, and all while avoiding the teen movie stereotypes that have largely defined this year. The previous installments lacked scenes that focused on the group as a whole but in Alo’s episode, I finally noticed the group dynamics that the prior generations had set up in the past series. This generation is getting mixed reactions from its fans (mostly negative) since the pilot episode aired, mainly because of the poor casting. but also because it showed less of the true Skins’ sex, drugs and rock and roll essence.
At this point it feels like this year, with plenty of wasted time and no larger story, is more about laying the groundwork for a potentially much stronger second year for this generation of characters than a great standalone series. But even after 5 so-so episodes and uneven first half of the series, for the first time this season, it feels like the show’s firing a greater balance of solo and ensemble story, and hopefully it’s a momentum that keeps up for the last two episodes.~
Anyway, the point of this post is just that I wanted to show you the most memorable scene in ep06 for me. Look at this, it’s so fucking beautiful. It captured the same feeling in Michelle’s episode back in the first series. The Skins is back. They are back in the game. I can’t wait to see the finale.
